Who We Are

Bear Earth CIC is a non-profit organisation dedicated to combating hygiene poverty and promoting menstrual and personal hygiene education for women and girls worldwide.

Founded by Zinthiya Ganeshpanchan, Bear Earth was born from a simple truth: in Sri Lanka, one pack of sanitary products costs around 200 rupees - the equivalent of half a day's wage. For millions of women in refugee camps, rural communities, plantations, prisons, and urban slums, access to basic menstrual hygiene products remains out of reach.

Through our sanitary product subscription service and dignity kits, we raise funds to support educational initiatives that empower women and girls - fostering a more equitable and informed global community. Our approach is rooted in sustainability and social responsibility, and 100% of our profits are reinvested into educational outreach and community impact programmes.

How Bear Earth Fights Period Poverty

Throughout the world, women and girls continue to use rags, toilet tissues, and other makeshift alternatives because they cannot afford menstrual products. In displacement camps, the situation is even worse - women and girls sometimes trade sex in return for period products.

Bear Earth works to change this. With funds raised through our hygiene kits, subscriptions, and partnerships, we reach out to communities where sanitary products are inaccessible - including refugee camps, rural areas where aid does not reach, plantations, prisons, and slums where life is a daily struggle.

The problem also exists closer to home. Those working on our community project say many girls in the UK miss school for up to a week every month because they cannot afford period products, or because of cultural beliefs and stigma around menstruation.

Bear Earth provides dignity kits and education to help women manage menstrual hygiene safely, hygienically, and with confidence.

"Bear Earth has been started with one goal: to work towards ending period poverty by educating and equipping the females of our world to embrace something which is so natural and normal. We also accept donations of period products that will be distributed to women and girls in the UK via the Zinthiya Trust through the food banks and the community shop" — Zinthiya Ganeshpanchan, Founder, Bear Earth CIC

Where Bear Earth Operates

Bear Earth is headquartered in Leicester, UK, and operates both locally and internationally. Our work spans communities where menstrual hygiene products are hardest to access from refugee and displacement camps to rural areas, plantations, prisons, and urban slums.

In the UK, we work through the Zinthiya Trust to distribute products via food banks and community shops, reaching women and girls who cannot afford period products. Internationally, we partner with organisations aligned with our mission to deliver dignity kits and menstrual health education where they are needed most.
