We’d like to celebrate our new team of Bear Earth Ambassadors, who are all looking forward to raising awareness and working to dispel the stigma around female menstruation and periods.

On Thursday 21st July, we delivered our Bear Earth ‘Train The Trainer’ training to 12 Global Health MSc students. The training which was delivered at the She Inspires Global Community & Enterprise Hub, located on Bishop Street in Leicester, was aimed at training individuals to support Bear Earth’s work at the heart of communities, by providing materials, activities and workshops designed to normalise the conversation and provide a safe environment for people to raise their own understanding and knowledge around female menstruation and periods.

Participants engaged in several activities including, ‘The Words on the Street’ designed to get individuals to think about negative and positive words they have heard that people use to describe periods - this activity created discussion around how these words make people feel as well understanding the different words that are used across different cultures and religions.

Another activity, ‘Fact or Myth’ saw participants look at a number of statements and discuss whether they felt it was a myth or fact – this resulted in individuals sharing lived experiences and some of the myths they were told or heard when they were younger.

“I have really enjoyed taking part in the training. I feel motivated and confident to be able to facilitate educational sessions and workshops for young people in my community - the activities are a great way of getting people to talk more openly about a subject matter that can be difficult and sometimes embarrassing to talk about”. Tina Barton, Education & Engagement Manager for Bear Earth said “Our Train The Trainer training is designed to support individuals to have the confidence to normalise the conversation around periods and menstrual awareness, providing people with tools, activities and materials, whether there a parent, teacher, health worker or want to develop their own understanding and confidence around the subject matter. We’re really excited to be supporting our new Ambassadors in their delivery of activities at the heart of their communities”.
