About Bear Earth CIC
Bear Earth CIC is a social enterprise based in Leicester. We work to end hygiene and period poverty by getting essential products and menstrual health education to women and girls in the UK and around the world.
Our story
Bear Earth was founded by Zinthiya Ganeshpanchan, who was born in Sri Lanka and now lives in Leicester. She grew up seeing women and girls go without period products because they simply could not afford them. Through her work with the Zinthiya Trust and the She Inspires Community and Enterprise Hub, she found the same problem here in the UK, where many girls were missing up to a week of school every month. Bear Earth was set up to tackle this with a sustainable model, rather than relying on one-off donations.
Our mission
We believe access to period products and hygiene education is a basic right, not a privilege. Our mission is to end the stigma around periods and make sure every woman and girl can manage her period and personal hygiene with dignity.
What we do
Dignity kits: tailored packs of period products and toiletries for women and girls in crisis
Subscriptions: monthly sanitary product subscriptions that help fund our work
Education and awareness: menstrual and personal hygiene workshops, including our Train the Trainer programme with university students and Bear Earth ambassadors
Business partnerships: helping UK businesses support menstrual health in their communities
Why we're a CIC
Bear Earth is a Community Interest Company (CIC), not a charity. CICs are regulated so that profits and assets are used for the benefit of the community. We have no shareholders and pay no dividends, and we reinvest 100% of our profits into dignity kits and period education. Registered in England and Wales, company number 12804000.
Get involved
Humanitarian agencies, businesses and individuals can all help. You can order dignity kits, take out a subscription, become an ambassador or work with us on education projects in schools and community groups. We also welcome help with fundraising, volunteering and spreading the word.
We don't just hand out products. We educate, empower and challenge stigma, so that women and girls can live with dignity, health and confidence.
